Rice Kitchen

Gastrology recently attended the launch of Rice Kitchen, an innovative new DIY dinner party delivery service in Melbourne.

Hosted by the lovely Dani Venn, the event was made extra special as it was held the day before Mother’s Day and attendees were able to bring their mothers along to celebrate!

Rice Kitchen is all about taking the fuss out of planning and preparing a dinner party by providing delicious Asian inspired Feast Boxes, delivered to your door. The service puts the control in your hands and the work into theirs. You choose the menu, they shop for and prepare the ingredients so all you do is add the final finishing touches.

Through Rice Kitchen, owners Lili and Anh share an abundance of treasured Vietnamese family recipes so the menu reflects everything you love about Vietnamese cuisine - punchy, zesty, fresh and nutritious.

We loved tasting our way through Rice Kitchen's menu. Our favourite starter was the Tempura Eggplant Mantou Buns. This vegetarian bao impressed with its perfectly battered eggplant - think crunchy exterior and gooey soft interior.  It was a delightful vegetarian bao that would appeal to even the most carnivorous individuals.

For mains the punchy Coconut Beef Larb was a hit. Assembled similarly to a san choi bao, a lettuce cup is used as a “base” and then layered with herbs and vegetables before adding the tender flavour-laden beef and finished off with some garnish.

For dessert, the decadent Black Sticky Rice Pudding topped with matcha ice cream and Persian fairy floss concluded our dining experience on a sweet note.
