Saint James
/Saint James Cafe is the British-themed cousin of From on High, Hard Pressed, Small Print Pizza Bar, Pedro Espresso and Yorkshire Brewhouse.
The café is the realisation of British owners Craig Tate and Rich Donovan's dream and named after St. James' Park, the home of Tate and Donovan's favourite football club Newcastle United.
The airy and casual café delivers a delicious menu of English-inspired brunch fare alongside excellent coffee. While the English theme is not immediately obvious, the influence is certainly there, resulting in a very interesting and compelling brunch proposition.
The café's commitment to sustainability means that the food is made from raw ingredients, using every part. Organic waste is turned to compost - not landfill. We loved the use of seasonal and local with all free-range meat and eggs.
We loved both of the dishes we ordered.
The pan fried gnocchi was absolutely stunning. Think caramelised pillow soft gnocchi tossed with herbed wild mushrooms, spinach and luxurious goats curd finished with aromatic truffle oil and shaved parmesan. It was a thing of beauty.
The Breakfast Bowl was a wonderfully healthy option. A delightful amalgamation of quinoa, black rice, kale, beetroot hummus, smashed peas, mixed greens, pepitas, pickled daikon and topped with a poached egg encasing gooey yolk. We suggest you add the house cured trout to this dish. It's simply delicious.
