Sassy.x Restaurant & Bar
/Located in West Melbourne Sassy.x Restaurant & Bar boasts European cuisine with an Asian influence. Alongside the delicious food and drink offering, guests are rewarded with fabulous views of Docklands and the Melbourne Star, courtesy of the wide floor-to-ceiling windows.
The restaurant is the brainchild of Ele Troise, a veteran in the industry with over 30 years of experience in restaurant development, sales and consulting in Melbourne. In addition to his previous stints in managerial positions, Ele also happens to be trained chef, pastry chef and barista. Together with Sassy.x’s Head Chef, Trent Kerr (The European) and Chef ‘Bruce’ Tshewang Gyeltshen, the trio present a compeling dining experience.
To start the burrata was wonderful. This cheese sensation demonstrated that unforgettable dishes can sometimes be very simple. In this instance, a ball of unadulterated burrata simply paired with pickled wild figs, basil and grilled sourdough. When the outer solid mozzarella shell was cut, we loved how the creamy interior of soft, stringy curd and fresh cream revealed itself. The sumptuously rich yet sensibly balanced flavours were sensational.
The grilled swordfish was similarly delicious. We loved the exceedingly fresh fish that had been cooked to perfection and served with agrodolce sauce, creamy cauliflower puree and plump golden raisins.
For something heartier, do not go past the braised lamb shoulder. The lamb had been beautifully slow cooked for hours and was packed with tons of flavour and featured alongside parsnip and almond skordalia and finished with a sherry glaze. It was a dish that looked stunning and tasted even better.
Whatever you do, do not leave Sassy.x without trying one of their delicious pizzas. The appeal of Sassy.x pizzas lie in its beautiful crusts and the use of quality produce. The bomba calabrese pizza was sensational - picture perfect in appearance and outstanding in taste. Unctuous nduja, dollops of fior di latte mozzarella, layers Pugliese tomato sauce, a medley of tomatoes finished with e.v.o created a delightful fusion of flavours that would keep any pizza purist happy. Encircled with a puffy crisp crust, this pizza was superb.
Dessert time continued to please at Sassy.x. Think dark chocolate fondant with raspberry milk crumbs and pistachio gelato and melt in your mouth yuzu lavender panna cotta served with roasted strawberries and black sesame.
