Selene Restaurant
/Located in Pyrgos, one of the most beautiful and well-preserved villages of Santorini, Selene Restaurant delivers a modernist approach to Greek cuisine. An absolute must-visit if you are in the area (and certainly worth a special trip if you are not), this restaurant ticks all the boxes with amiable service, stunning ambience, impeccable food and an expansive wine list that heroes Santorini wines from all the island's producers.
We loved tasting our way through the menu. We recommend you start with some of their daily freshly baked bread and EVOO – during our visit it was an adorable trio of thesalloniki bagel, tomato and onion ladenia and a faro wheat bun.
Highlights included the Octopus “yuvetsi” which is a moreish mix of orzo gnocchi, clams, aromatic truffle and compressed octopus. An elegant dish which displayed skill and restraint. The Pasticcio was similarly delicious. We loved this hearty dish made from al dente homemade pasta stuffed with pork and beef cheeks, sour frumenty béchamel, parmesan foam, smoked carrot puree and tomato confit.
For mains the “Black” Aegean codfish served with cauliflower cream, pickled cauliflower, smoked eggplant powder and lime sorbet is a display in contrasting flavours working a treat. For something heavier, the lamb “ala polita” will have you singing. Think boneless lamb loin served with crisp fried sweetbreads, green peas, artichoke and finished with lemon verbena sauce
For dessert the “white eggplant” is not to be missed. Presently cheekily in the form of an eggplant, this is simply a delicious amalgamation of white chocolate, revani, coconut and pineapple.
