St Leonards

St Leonards Vineyard

St Leonards Vineyard is one of the Rutherglen Wine Region's lessor known wineries but boasts a rich history. First planted in 1860 by James Scott, St Leonards is now under the stewardship of Eliza, Angela and Nick Brown. These siblings continue to plough their energy and enthusiasm into improving the winery and wines, which are garnering praise from Australia's wine judge extraordinaire James Halliday.

St Leonards Vineyard offers visitors an authentically rustic winery experience, with antique winemaking equipment and 100+ year old wooden vats filled to the brim with maturing fortified wine leading the way to the cellar door.

We loved being taken through a tasting of the St Leonards wines. From the lively, medium bodied Vineyard Cabernet Franc, 2 wonderful expressions of Shiraz and on to the powerfully rich Vineyard Durif, a varietal that has become synonymous with Rutherglen, each wine was a true expression of the vineyard from which it was born.

St Leonards Cafe

St Leonards Cafe boasts tranquil views across the vineyard to the Murray River and is a perfect location for breathing in all that is wonderful about this magical part of the country.

We recommend finding a nice spot in the sun and indulging in a charcuterie and cheese platter while sipping on your favourite St Leonards wine - which in our case was the complex and exquisitely balanced Wahgunyah Shiraz. Lazing at St Leonards is quite simply a wonderful way to spend an afternoon.
