Stalactities
/One of Melbourne's longest established and best known Greek restaurants, Stalactites has been owned and operated by the same Greek family since 1978 and is quite simply a Melbourne institution. Open 24 hours, 7 days a week, Stalactites is a must for Melbourne diners.
Our feast began with warm pita bread served with a delicious selection of house made dips. These dips were bold, vibrant and delicious and Perry is proud of the fact that each dip is made from scratch daily.
The saganaki was a standout. The salty pan-seared Kefalograviera, a robust sheep milk cheese originating from Greece, was delicious. With the added textural kick from the chewiness of the cheese, this dish was an absolutely moreish appetiser.
For mains the Kalamari Gemisto was delightful. Oven baked calamari has been stuffed with herbs and was beautifully flavoursome and tender.
A visit to Stalactites would ofcourse be incomplete without their delicious grilled meats. We loved their mixed grill platter which was a generous plate of marinated skewer of chicken fillet, marinated lamb giro from the spit, lamb cutlet and homemade Greek bifteki, served with Greek salad and chips.
Everything was expertly prepared. Cooked medium, each morsel of tender and full of flavour.
To finish, we indulged in the Stalactites’s dessert platter. Our favourites were the galaktoboureko which was traditional and heart-warming and the baklava which was superbly made and absolutely moreish.
Stalactites pleases with simple, honest Greek food, meticulously prepared with love using the freshest of ingredients.
