Stop 17

Fitzroy’s latest addition to Smith Street, Stop 17 pleases patrons with life’s simple pleasures done well.

With a relaxed, unpretentious and uncomplicated approach, the food features a variety of brunch options that will suit everyone, coupled with a friendly ambience.

The café serves its own locally blended coffee, Phoenix Coffee - a blend been designed specifically for the café and the Fitzroy area. The menu we features Modern Australian offerings with options for all day breakfast, lunch and dinner.

We loved the "Little Nipper" burger. The soft shell crab burger's lightly toasted buttery brioche buns were the perfect canvas for the beautifully crispy and juicy soft shell crab. The deep fried crustacean pieces were coated in a semi-thick crisp batter that encapsulated firm, sweet flesh. Served with luxurious coleslaw and Siracha mayo alongside crunchy lettuce and a myriad of spices, it was simply superb.

Another highlight was the pan seared calamari - Tender ribbons of battered calamari were seasoned with black volcanic salt and ground pepper and served atop mixed salad, tartare sauce and a lemon wedge. The calamari was perfectly seasoned and went beautifully with the sauce.

The venue also features Australia’s first “Writer’s Room”. A room dedicated to authors, screenwriters and directors and is designed as a creative space for guests to enjoy. The room features works by local artists based in Fitzroy. The completed works of art include caricatures of Quentin Tarantino and Stephen King, who have each provided their endorsement.

Serving good food at affordable prices Stop 17 has unsurprisingly become a favourite choice for locals. A lovely and versatile meeting place, the cafe caters for lunching families to passer-by’s looking for a quick bite.
