Tandoori Flames
/Gastrology visited Tandoori Flames on behalf of the Australian Good Food Guide.
Tandoori Flames is an incredibly welcoming Indian eatery in leafy South Kingsville. The menu is extensive - featuring a whole range of Indian dishes from distinct regional influences and tandoori specialties such as lamb seekh kabab out of their charcoal clay oven tandoor.
We loved indulging in a decadent Indian feast which featured a flavourful array of authentic Indian dishes while relaxing in Tandoori Flames’ comfortable ambience.
The sizzling mixed grill tikka platter was an amazing start to our dinner. The platter featured a variety of meat and chicken kebab served atop a sizzling hot plate.
To follow, the onion bhaji was similarly moreish – a perfect blend of onions and chick pea flour with a hint of spices, we loved these crunchy gold nuggets.
A visit to Tandoori Flames would of course be incomplete without a selection of their decadent curries.
The murg methi was a real highlight. Full of flavour, tender chicken morsels had been marinated in fenugreek and creamy curry.
If you love your spice, do not go past the lamb vindaloo. A spicy dish from Goa, the curry was made with creamy coconut, vinegar and generous amounts of red chilli peppers - a great pair with Tandoori Flames’ excellent naan bread.
Vegans are also well looked after at Tandoori Flames – there is even a section of the menu dedicated purely to vegan curries. We loved the vegan saag tofu curry which was a curry made with blended spinach and topped with tofu. It was simply delicious.
The dessert menu at Tandoori Flames features an excellent selection of popular Indian treats. All of the desserts we sampled were delicious. If you’re feeling adventurous, we highly recommend the paan kulfi – an ice cream made with fresh betel leaves, cardamom and fennel seeds – interesting and a lovely way to conclude your visit to Tandoor Flames.
Tandoori Flames serves up delightful Indian dishes in comfortable surrounds with excellent service and is a great place for a decadent banquet with friends over authentic curries and exotic delicacies.
The restaurant is also dedicated to the community and wants to make sure people in need in the area do not go hungry. A sign at the back of the restaurant says “If you’re hungry, and have no money, please don’t worry. We’ll bring you some curry!”.
The idea came from owner, Jimmy Marwaha’s 12 year old daughter Gurnoor who was concerned about people going without food at night. Gurnoor suggested that the restaurant install the sign to encourage anyone who was hungry to knock for a free meal and today, the restaurant receives knocks at the door up to 20 times a week and the kitchen is always prepared to share some curry served with rice and bread.
