Thai Thani

It is a Friday night on Brunswick Street, Fitzroy and Thai Thani is bustling and vibrant. Melbourne is filled with Thai restaurants but Thai Thani manages to stand out from the crowd. The decor is modern and relaxed, with grey, white and wooden hues dominating the colour scheme. 

We loved tasting our way through their new winter menu. To start, the tofu and taro wraps were a winner. Think crispy tofu skin encasing melt in your mouth morsels of taro and tofu which go down a treat with the accompanying sweet chilli peanut sauce.

For mains we fell in love with the Thai Thani Green Curry. The dish consisted of tender, flavour-infused chicken morsels thoroughly coated in a mouth-watering curry of various spices.  

The Crispy Skin Salmon Choo Chee Curry was our favourite dish of the night. The perfectly seasoned curry broth possessed the customary punchy flavours exhibited by South East Asian curries and was a great match for the oily texture of the salmon. Together with coconut rice, this was an addictive and comforting dish.

Desserts at Thai Thani are similarly well conceived. The steamed coconut pandan puddings had a delicious balance of sweet and savoury from the use of salty sweet coconut milk and boasted a smooth gooey texture.

For sheer gratification the Nutella and banana roti is perfect. It was a simple dessert that amalgamated the best aspects of the flaky roti in the form of a dessert. The roti had a pleasant chewiness which contrasted nicely with the creamy Nutella and banana. Just. Yum.

Thai Thani pleases with a modern yet authentic Thai menu, which boasts fresh ingredients, cooked to order delivering affordable quality Thai food to Melbournians.
