The Albion
/

Last month saw the opening of the highly anticipated The Albion. A beautiful space boasting a heritage-listed façade which dates back to 1869, The Albion is a three-level complex. Diners are rewarded for their staircase climbing endeavours (or, there’s always the lift) with a striking rooftop overlooking Melbourne city views.
Accompanying the stunning ambience is a menu perfect for sharing which is versatile enough to take you from a drink at the bar over a couple of snacks to an indulgent dinner of generous grazing plates with mates.
On the drinks front, expect to find a solid cocktail list (which includes a killer Espresso Martini), some beers and a wine list which covers all bases.
The menu is Asian influenced and has something to suit everyone. For something lighter, the Miso glazed tofu is a vegetarian crowd pleaser - umami-laden and served with puffed rice, spring onion and sesame. The Calamari fritti is another excellent dish. A modern pub staple, expect calamari with an ethereally light and crunchy batter dusted with fennel salt and served with a side of creamy wild lime aioli. Just brilliant.
For something heartier, do not go past the Dry aged beef shortloin. Displaying a mastery in the manner the beef was cooked, the steak was cooked perfectly from end to end. A light searing ensured that it was lined with a thin crisp layer packed with caramelised beef flavour. Together with a witlof and fennel salad for freshness, crispy herb potatoes and a decadent jus, this is one truly gratifying dish.
For sweet tooths, the warm chocolate pudding will make sure you conclude your visit on a sweet note. Think gooey centred chocolate fondant served with caramelised fig ice cream, macadamia praline, and vanilla floss. Just yum!
