Three Blue Ducks
/Three Blue Ducks is a place for lovers of real food in a relaxed setting. The concept launched in September 2010 as a venture between mates for a restaurant to provide amazing food and friendly service. Originating as a humble café in Bronte, enamoured locals soon turned Three Blue Ducks into an institution. Demand quickly led to an extended offering, growing the space and including dinner service.
With years of cooking experience, Three Blue Ducks champion sustainability and ethically farmed produce, using the best in local produce to create dishes with a profusion of flavour. Three Blue Ducks now exist as five iterations, including: The Farm Bryon Bay, Rosebery, Brisbane within the W Hotel, Nimbo Fork Lodge in regional NSW and the newest at URBNSURF in Melbourne’s Tullamarine.
We loved visiting the new location at URBNSURF. Like all the other venues, the new Melbourne outlet sources only the best quality in organic, fair-trade, local and sustainable products. And the results speak for themselves. Everything we had was stunning from the starters to desserts.
Highlights included the Burrata. This cheese sensation demonstrated that unforgettable dishes can sometimes be very simple. In this instance, a ball of unadulterated burrata beautifully paired with roasted and pickled beetroots, witlof, Davidson’s plum salt and fennel seed crunch. When the outer solid mozzarella shell was cut, we loved how the creamy interior of soft, stringy curd and fresh cream revealed itself. The sumptuously rich yet sensibly balanced flavours were sensational.
The Spiced lamb ribs were similarly delicious. Falling of the bone, the perfectly seasoned ribs were served with burnt eggplant, tabouli and creamy garlic yogurt.
For mains the roasted organic half chicken with honey and lemon thyme glaze and snap pea salad had us fighting over the last morsel. Pair this with the kitchen’s seriously good roasted potatoes topped with rosemary salt and you’re in heaven.
Dessert time continued to please with the baked pear, hazelnut and almond frangipane served with stewed rhubarb and hot chocolate custard. Just yum.
