An evening with Patrick of Coonawarra x Gingerboy

Last night, we attended a decadent evening with Patrick of Coonawarra, where guests had the opportunity to meet director and founder Luke Tocaciu and learn all about the brand story and range of wines through an immersive food and wine tasting experience dinner at Gingerboy.

It was a celebration of Riesling and Cabernet Sauvignon and truly highlighted the diversity and quality of Patrick of Coonawarra’s range of wines.

Food and wine pairing highlights included a stunning aged 2014 Block 5 Riesling paired with cured salmon and picked chilli, grilled king brown mushroom with truffled hoisin dressing paired beautifully with Patrick of Coonawarra’s 2021 Methode Eucalypt Cabernet Sauvignon, Grilled king prawn and XO sauce paired with Patrick of Coonawarra’s 2021 Methode Cab Nouveau (a beaujolais inspired lighter red).

The evening concluded with two of our favourite wines from the night – the 2016 Home Block Cabernet Sauvignon (paired superbly with Sher Wagyu MS7+steak in Cantonese black pepper sauce) and 2012 Grande Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon (paired very interestingly with a chocolate delice dessert).

The 2016 Home Block Cabernet Sauvignon was a gorgeous wine boasting blackberry and blackcurrant notes with silky tannins.

This was followed by the 2012 Grande Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon which was truly the perfect way to conclude the night. A result of careful cellaring, this 10 year old wine was in perfect drinking condition. Powerful, yet balanced, we loved hearing from Luke as he took us through the tasting notes as well as provided some background on this wine which is only made from the best fruit from the best vintages. The wine still boasted plenty of life – gorgeous dark fruit with some beautiful tertiary characteristics coming through from the aging process. And oh.. the length…. Simply a wine any wine lover will enjoy.
