Tyranny of Distance
/Tyranny owners Tyranny of Distance is an accidental gallery of recycled parts and artisan labour. Think lampshades made from vulcanised fibre stitched together like old boots, gas bottles fashioned into outdoor lamps, tables made from old and a window covering designed in the image of a vintage meat safe. Owners Carlo Colosimo (Lounge, Big Mouth Cafe, Two Fingers Cafe) and George Loukas (Tusk, Blue Elephant, Virgin Mary) have created a truly unique watering hole which has a scrumptious entirely vegan menu to match.
We loved tasting our way through the menu which is ideal for sharing or as a quick bite whilst sampling Tyranny of Distance’s extensive drinks range which includes craft beers, delicious cocktails and a solid wine list.
A generous bowl of loaded nachos set the scene – a delicious amalgamation of crispy fried gyoza skins with house blend spiced beans, savoury mince, melted nacho cheese, chargrilled corn, sour cream and avocado. J
The duck roti rolls grace our presence next – simply amazing. Sweet soy roasted duck with spinach, crispy bean shoots and snappy cucumbers. It’s a burst of umami that has your tastebuds singing.
For the main affair the chicken massaman curry is not to be missed. Rich, hearty and filled with spices and served alongside fluffy basmati this was comfort food at its best.
The Korean bao sliders were similarly delicious. Soft steamed bao encased tender pork belly marinated in a blend of gochujang with sweet and savoury seasonings, roasted green onions, shredded cabbage, brown sugar peanut dust and sesame seeds and served with spicy mayo.
Our visit concluded on a sweet high with the carrot cake. A truly scrumptious vegan take on an oldie but a goodie.
Tyranny of Distance excites and delights with its stunning vegan menu, enviable drink selection, great ambience and friendly service. We simply cannot wait to return.
