Uncle
/The team behind Vietnamese food success story, Uncle in St Kilda have just launched a new restaurant in the CBD. A welcomed addition to Melbourne’s culinary scene, Uncle Collins St adds an innovative and premium Vietnamese offering.
Located on the New York end of Collins St, Uncle exudes informality, with the large airy space accented by rustic, urban finishes.
In line with its social setting, the menu items are primarily designed for sharing, with dishes divided into user friendly sections. The menu is abundant with options and features authentic, fresh and flavoursome dishes which descent from traditional Vietnamese recipes passed down generations ago and are served with an urban twist.
We loved the contemporary Vietnamese cuisine which was executed with flair and a respectful understanding.
We loved the raw kingfish which showcased a multitude of intense flavours from the longan, sesame, wasabi peas and soy and was highlighted by the gentle creaminess of the coconut and tamarind foam.
The braised beef short rib bao was another winner. Fluffy bao bun encased melt in your mouth caramelised beef rib, morcilla and flavours of bun bo hue.
Whatever you do, do not leave without trying one of the desserts. The set Vietnamese coffee is our top pick. Think quivering pannacotta textured set milk coffee served with coconut ice cream and sesame crisp. You can thank us later.
Uncle offers a compelling proposition for casual dining in the city with offerings that are tasty, fresh and impactful. Delivering high quality Vietnamese hawker and home-inspired cuisine, Uncle is set to capture Melbourne’s heart.
