White Oaks Saloon Bar & Dining

White Oaks Saloon Bar & Dining is an American inspired, cocktail, craft-beer and food destination. 

A venture by brothers Nicholas and Thomas Welch (who also own Silverlake Social), White Oaks is named after the town in New Mexico notoriously connected with ‘billy the kid’ outlaw.

The ambience is relaxed and casual - Think neon-light American diner meets slick bar.

We loved eating our way through the flavour-laden, dude-food menu which is wonderfully unpretentious and celebrates the true taste of the USA. 

To start we loved the Southern deep fried shrimp seasoned and cooked with Cajun spice, old bay spice and chilli and served with luxurious house-made mayo. Another must-have starter is the Louisiana crab cakes. The crab cakes had a crunchy golden brown exterior and were succulently sweet - the nuggets of deep fried corn, herbs and seasoned batter brought pleasure to our taste buds. 

For mains the Chicken and pork gumbo was sheer comfort food. 4 hour slow cooked chicken boasted a beautiful smokiness from being cooked with spicy sausage, creole seasoning and plenty of herbs. 

For something to eat with your hands, the Cajun chicken tacos was another hit. Wonderfully tender spiced chicken with coriander, cabbage, house-made guacamole and chipotle mayo served atop warm corn tortillas.

Whatever you do, do not leave without trying White Oaks's Southern pecan pie. Everything you would want and expect from a pecan pie, this dessert makes wonderful use of America’s native nut. We loved the rich crumbliness and complementary nuttiness of the pastry which perfectly contrasted its gooey richness.
