Breakfast at the Hotel Windsor
/Breakfast at The Hotel Windsor’s signature restaurant One Eleven offers a glimpse into the season and the city it inhabits.
At The Hotel Windsor, Executive Chef Joel Alderson (The Brix, Attica and Royal Mail) offers a contemporary take on hotel dining. Gastrology were privileged to be one of the first to indulge in the new breakfast menu which features an exciting and delicious array of dishes including Asparagus on sourdough toast, with poached eggs, ‘Nduja, mint and hollandaise sauce; and Proper Eggs and Bacon, with maple glazed bacon, fried duck egg, and pickled green chili on Pyengana cheddar toast.
We opted for the "indulgent breakfast" option, which as its name suggests was incredibly indulgent - Starting with the Continental breakfast and followed by our choice of A La Carte breakfast hot dishes.
The continental breakfast impressed with its bakery selection of beautiful pastries and muffins but the A La Carte dishes were the real show stoppers.
The Goat cheese omelette on sourdough was perfection. Light, yet rich in flavour, the omelette was plump and boasted an appetising blonde colour. Upon tasting the omelette it was clear that there was more than met the eye. It has been cooked perfectly with the inside slightly underdone – but not runny – and the outside, smooth. The accompanying salad of heirloom zucchini, avocado, green olive and tarragon added interest and played a great supporting role.
The Toasted waffle was yet another winner. Crisp and well-browned on the outside with a moist, light, airy and fluffy inside. The waffle was the perfect canvas for the luxurious marsala caramel, fresh fig, mascarpone cheese and crunchy walnuts. Yum!
Driven by a love of produce, Alderson's subtle and technical manipulatation of flavours offers diners an unexpected take on the familiar breakfast options around town.
