Beer Wine and Calzone
/Beer Wine and Calzone is a new Italian canteen led by Pizzaioli and master baker Marino Maffi, situated above the popular jazz club Bird’s Basement.
The menu is simple and delicious and features a range of, as the name suggests, beautiful calzones filled with delicious fillings, such as artichoke hearts, salted aged beef and Parmesan, or our absolute favourite, the porcini mushrooms, asparagus, taleggio cheese and truffle oil calzone.
Pizzas have not been forgotten and there are a range of Italian classics available. The pizza bases are thin, light and have an excellent texture courtesy of the use of a very special 80-year-old yeast ‘mother’ and a specific blend of flours. Combined with premium toppings such as San Marzano tomato and San Daniele ham, the pizzas are delicious.
Also available are a range of starters ranging from salumi and arancini balls to semolina dusted fried calamari, as well as a compact selection of pastas.
The Italian art of pizza making is alive at the top end of William St. Open from noon to midnight, Beer Wine and Calzone is worth checking out. Also, do not leave without ordering the banana, nutella and custard calzone for dessert - you can thank us later.
