Woodfire Pizzeria
/Twenty year old Ivanhoe institution, Woodfire Pizzeria have just moved to a bigger and better home on Upper Heidelberg Road.
The new venue has a polished industrial feel that retains the warmth and heart of a classic Italian eatery and continues to boasts excellent wood-fired pizzas only now with the ability to seat just over one hundred Italian food aficionados.
We loved tasting our way through the menu which features a delicious selection of Neapolitan style pizzas alongside modern Italian fare. One thing is clear from the food - great produce is sourced and treated with the utmost care and respect.
To start we enjoyed the swordfish carpaccio. Beautifully thin slices of cured and aged swordfish was served with charred nectarines, burrata, rocket and green peppers. This was certainly a wonderfully summery starter.
For mains, pizzas are a must at Woodfire. The appeal of Woodfire's pizzas lies in its beautiful crusts and the use of quality produce. We were thoroughly impressed by our Porco Porcini pizza. Picture perfect, the pizza boasts aromatic truffle oil, layers of fior fi latte and provolone cheese as well as hearty Italian pork sausage, crispy pancetta, earthy porcini mushroom and a sprinkling of parsley.
Apart from pizzas, the pasta dishes are equally sensational. The linguini di mare possessed a wonderful depth of flavour and featured beautifully cooked seafood.
Dessert time is exciting at Woodfire Pizzeria. Generous, bold and bang for your buck, our dessert of Torta Caprese was stunning - think moist flourless chocolate cake topped with dates and delectable mascarpone ice cream and finishes with white chocolate and pistachio candy brittle.
