Xin Dau Ji
/In 2019, One-Michelin Star Xin Dau Ji opened its first Malaysian outlet at the Lower Ground Floor of EkoCheras Mall. This offshoot boasts a spacious dining room as well as opulent private rooms which are named according to the locations of all Xin Dau Ji outlets from Hong Kong, Macau and Shanghai.
This new outpost strives to deliver authentic Cantonese cuisine. The kitchen is headed by professional head chefs from Hong Kong to ensure the tastes and standard that Xin Dau Ji is renowned for is preserved.
Cantonese cuisine or more accurately, Guangdong cuisine or Yue cuisine refers to the cuisine of China's Guangdong Province. Cantonese cuisine is one of the most popular regional cuisines in Chinese cooking, especially in Hong Kong.
Perfection when it comes to Cantonese cuisine is achieved when the flavours are well-balanced. Spices are often used in modest amounts in order to celebrate the flavours of the primary ingredient, which in turn should be at the peak of their freshness and quality. These are the very principals that Xin Dau Ji abides by.
When we tasted our way through the menu we were pleased to find that every dish boasted carefully balanced flavours and boasted the freshest and best ingredients available.
Our top picks from the menu included the House Special Roasted Goose. Boasting a thin layer of perfectly crisp skin, and unctuously tender meat, this goose is worth returning for. Unsurprising that this is one of Xin Dau Ji’s most popular dishes.
The Sweet & Sour Spare Ribs were similarly delicious. A very particular part of the pork spare ribs is used in creating this dish – ensuring the perfect ratio between meat and fat so that the morsels simply melt in your mouth.
For seafood lovers the dish of Steamed Rice with Egg White, Garlic, Ginger & Crab will have your tongues singing. As will the dish of pan-fried Seafood Paste with plump Australian Scallops – certainly a thing of beauty.
If you would like a vegetable dish to accompany all the decadence, we recommend the dish of braised lettuce in clay pot. We loved how crisp and perfectly seasoned the lettuce leaves were – particularly addictive when accompanied by fluffy rice.
Our visit concluded on a sweet note with seasonal fruit and Xin Dau Ji’s alluring egg tarts. The pastry was exceedingly short and the filling was wonderfully smooth and simply melted in our mouths.
