Yukie's Snack Bar
/Yukie's Snack Bar is Mr. Miyagi's highly anticipated expansion into its neighbouring Chapel Street space.
Aptly named after Mr. Miyagi's mistress, Yukie's is a sophisticated yet satirical double-story cocktail bar and snack lounge - an ideal spot for a cheeky pre-Miyagi dinner cocktail, or a long night of bar-side beats.
The bar takes inspiration from Mr Miyagi's unique food and beverage offering; serving up bite-sized counterparts, a sexy cocktail list and a bright, flirty atmosphere.
Reminiscent of Miyagi's signature twist, the food is inventive and designed to share. An absolute highlight from our visit was the Kingfish cured on a Himalayan rock salt slab with green chili, coriander cream and crispy quinoa. The Kingfish was excellent. Displaying technique and skilful restraint, the kingfish was beautifully presented and accompanied by a citrus-based marinade that cured the kingfish. It was a wonderful mélange of salinity, sweetness and acidity.
Mr Miyagi’s pièce de résistance, the Nori taco also features at Yukie's and as usual is mind-blowingly good. Crisp taco shell of tempura nori sheets filled with perfectly seasoned sushi rice, tangy kimchi, rich salmon adorned with chilli oil and Japanese mayonnaise. With all ingredients in perfect harmony, every bite was a feast for the senses - a stunning dish.
As expected of any good Melbourne bar, Yukie's delivers a great selection of cocktails. We loved that each had a little quirky twist. Think raspberry and tonka bean margarita with black lava salt, or a salted watermelon martini; with fresh watermelon juice, gin, apple and hibiscus garnished with Midori infused "faux" olives.
The former art gallery space features fluro-pink LED lighting in the shape of Yukie's puckered lips, with a back-facing view onto the graffiti-covered brick walls of Artists Lane. A specially commissioned artwork by HEESCO, a celebrated muralist and fine artist, is reminiscent of street-side Japanese wall art featuring anime characters.
P-E-K STUDIO is responsible for the design and interior fit out which is light and bright, just like Yukie's personality. Drop lighting and custom-designed furniture has been created to reflect Yukie's vibrant and sophisticated style. Bare floorboards and stone bar tops keeps Yukie's look chic and elegant.
Mr. M is still the boss around here so when Mr. Miyagi is open Yukie will be too.
