Saigon Secret is a new Vietnamese eatery which is a delicious new addition to Carlton’s burgeoning food scene.
Saigon Secret’s mission is simple: to serve authentic Vietnamese fare that won’t break the bank in a relaxed setting. The menu is authentic, affordable and takes you on a trip around Vietnam, all the way from up north to down south (from rice paper rolls to vermicelli noodle bowls, or pho).
To start we loved the traditional spring rolls featuring the option of chicken and pork, prawn or veggies wrapped with Shiso leaf, Wasabi leaf and lettuce. The satay chicken was similarly delicious. Think beautifully marinated and grilled chicken, pineapple and cherry tomato skewers slathered in rich satay sauce. Just yum!
For mains, the dish called “Week to week” was scrumptious. We loved the perfectly steamed barramundi fillet which was served with a rich caramel sauce of ginger, garlic, onion, Chinese broccoli topped with cilantro and pepper.
The Yelling Duck was yet another winner. Addictive morsels of marinated duck were fried and served in a decadent red curry broth alongside broccoli, rainbow carrots, asparagus and onion.
The secret is out. With a $2 corkage BYO policy, a bunch of all-time favourites on the menu, coupled with speedy and friendly service Saigon Secret is a winner.
