Globe Alley
/Globe Alley is the new dive bar and venue on the CBD block by the gang at The B.East, promising more great burgers, vegan eats and good vibes, while maintaining the B.East's tradition of hosting some of Melbourne's (and now the world's) finest live musical acts performing for free and for all. Globe Alley promises to be a 'Rock'n'Roll Oasis in the heart of the CBD .
The gang have been killing it northside and are spreading their wings into the city. Looking to continue their philosophy of great food and free music for all, in Globe Alley, they may have found just the spot.
Handily located in their namesake Globe Alley, on the corner of Swanston and Little Bourke, Chinatown, Globe Alley is inspired by classic New York bar and band room favourites such as CBGB's, with a strong vegan focus, some local Chinatown influences, and burgers that give a nod to their sister venue The B.East.
The drinks list is solid with a particularly commendable selection of cocktails, the result of being looked after by Cocktail auteur Pita Dixon (Foxglove, Charlie's Bar, The Toff in Town, Joe Taylor) who puts his unique spin and absolute commitment to craftsmanship in every spirit, mix, cocktail and mocktail he creates. We recommend trying the Black Sabbath – a heady combination of Tromba Tequila, Mr black coffee liqueur and agave stirred down old fashioned.
On the food front, the menu has been put together by Cast of Falcons group executive chef Jarrod Moore (The B.East, Henry’s Burgers, Section 8 etc). The result is a seriously compelling menu.
To start, the Buffalo Hot Wings are a must-have. We loved the exceedingly crispy fried chicken wings. We opted for the hot as f**k sauce and were not disappointed – Just yum! The Triple Chilli Cheese Fries were similarly delicious – Beer battered fries topped with Habanero cheese sauce, shredded jack cheddar and mozzarella.
On the Burgers side of the menu, the vegan burgers stand out. These are created to entice everyone. Seriously, you don’t have to be vegan to love these.
The Vegan Cheeseburger was a thing of beauty. Sandwiched between fluffy milk buns was grilled Beyond beef burger patty, vegan cheddar, butter lettuce, pickles, onion and house special vegan sauce. We also opted to add Maple facon and Bourbon pickled jalapenos to the mix – a decision we did not regret.
The Vegan Dirty Bird burger was another winner - Perfectly battered and fried Southern style mock chicken layered with butter lettuce, McClures pickles, white BBQ sauce and Jack cheddar.
You like brisket? Well, there’s a vegan version of that too and it’s hella good and comes in the form of a BBQ brisket burger. Fluffy bun, BBQ vegan brisket, apple and fennel slaw, pickled jalapenos, smoked BBQ sauce. What could be better? To quote Pablo Andres (Globe Alley’s Marketing & Promotions Manager and DJ extraordinaire), “It’s meatier than meat.”
Of course, the non-vegan burgers are amazing as well. If you want the real deal the De-Lux is the way to go. Think juicy organic short rib burger with shaved black truffle and fontina cheese. It’s simply heaven on a plate.
Globe Alley is all about amazing burgers, music, drinks and having a good time. We cannot wait to return!
