Horse on Heels

Horse on Heels is dedicated to the art of the waffle. Owners Yuan and Lunnie began sharing their love of waffles at a stall (The Waffle Club) in Queen Victoria Market 5 years ago. After a lot of trial and error and a growing fan-base, the dynamic duo were finally ready to open Horse On Heels, the realisation of their Waffle Specialist dreams! 

The café exudes a  warm and welcoming atmosphere that will have you feeling like you’re immediately at home.

As expected of any good Melbourne café, the eatery prides itself on excellent coffee. More exciting is their very own creation - their vividly purple taro latte which is a decadent creamy drink.

The menu offers many variations of beautifully decadent sweet and savoury waffles. The waffles on offer are some of the best that Melbourne has to offer. We tried both savoury and the sweet waffles and were pleased that each were absolutely perfect - crisp and well-browned on the outside with a moist, light, airy and fluffy inside.

The savoury avocado waffle was superb. Combining a wonderful array of charred pomegranate and glazed cherry tomato alongside perfectly sous vide egg encasing dripping egg yolk, the waffle paired with great effect with the flavour-laden hazelnut dukkah. All the ingredients sat atop an absolutely moreish flax seed waffle - which we were surprised to hear is vegetarian, dairy free AND gluten free. 

The sweet waffle was again, wonderful. After much contemplation, we opted for the Autumn Fruits waffle - a decision we did not come to regret. The perfectly made Belgian Liege waffle was the ideal canvas for the fresh autumn fruits, decadent coconut chia pudding, acai bowl, crispy granola, goji berries and luxurious pure maple syrup.

A spectacular addition to Fitzroy's thriving food scene, Horse on Heels provides a welcoming atmosphere coupled with a fantastic array of waffles. We cannot wait to return.
