Lover
/Windsor hotspot Lover has recently celebrated its first birthday. A year on and Head chef Paul Turner (Cutler and Co, Donovans and Qualia) continues to break the mould on Chapel Street, with a modern Australian menu consisting of non-committal, shareable tapas style dishes to test before you dive into a selection of substantial mains.
The brainchild of owner Will Newton, Lover brings you an experience you won't forget. Serving food until late, Lover’s moreish food menu is matched with an exciting drinks list. Expect a carefully curated wine list that consists of local and international wines. The cocktail menu is designed for any occasion, starting with a selection of Apero style drinks and then moves to a whole section for Negroni lovers.
The interior pairs with the style of food and drink offering of romantic sharable and high quality food. Lover expresses a hip yet warming atmosphere with hidden seating nooks including deep booths at the back of the venue. All customers dine in semi darkness with chandelier lighting imitating a mood-lit cocktail saloon.
We loved tasting our way through their new menu. To start the crusty house made seeds and grains bread served with brown butter was beautiful – a signal of things to come. The tempura zucchini flowers stuffed with scallop was excellent. The batter encasing the zucchini flowers was ethereally light and crisp while the stuffing was rich and flavoursome. To follow a refreshing dish of burrata served with smoked tomato, peach and basil was simple yet simply beautiful.
Lover’s famous gnocchi graced our presence next – unsurprisingly, this was yet another hit. Think pillow soft gnocchi boasting a crisp exterior from being pan fried and tossed in pecorino, zucchini and citrus.
For mains the dish of chicken, cavalo nero and black garlic was simply wonderful – cooked to a succulent perfection.
