Meatworks

Select a great cut of grass-fed meat, conjure up a delicious recipe and select the appropriate cooking method - smoked, braised or roasted? This is where it starts and finishes at Meatworks - a new South Melbourne restaurant by hospitality entrepreneur, Lindsay Jones-Evans and his wife Sheng Nan Ren.

Lindsay has meticulously renovated an old panel beating garage warehouse into an exciting ‘steam punk’ space which transitions from bright and airy during the day to moody by night. As well as renovating the space, Lindsay also hand built Meatwork's 450kg in-house wood smoker affectionately named Betsy.

The evolving menu, created by Chef Travis Watson, takes inspiration from meaty dishes from both Eastern and Western cuisines. From platters of smoked meats to Asian noodles topped with slow-cooked braised-beef, Meatworks has one aim - creating a haven for carnivores.

For those that want to raise their forks with intent, then look no further than the Meatworks meat platter. This tray of succulent goodness includes a selection of smoked meats including tender pulled brisket and stand out lamb ribs served with three house made sauces to dip and dunk into.

For a lighter option, we enjoyed the sweet smoked salmon served with pomegranate, fresh mint, cucumber, buckwheat and  freekeh salad. A lovely amalgamation of fresh flavours and grains, the slight smoking of the salmon enhances its natural sweetness.

Meatworks is an exciting new addition to South Melbourne which we are following with interest.
