South Press

An exciting addition to South Yarra, South Press is the brainchild of Adam North (Hopkins River Beef, Entrecote), David Maconochie and Marty McCaig. 

Stepping into this oh so slick venue, the focus is clear - wine. Floor to ceiling wine racks showing off a vast collection divide the long wooden bar from the seating area up front, with a leafy courtyard tucked away in the rear. 

This chique fitout does not come at the expense of warmth, as South Press exudes a welcoming atmosphere courtesy of the extensive use of rich timbers and the friendly and knowledgeable staff. 

The wine selection has been thoughtfully curated and covers all bases, with a good mix of foreign and lesser known local wines on offer both by the glass and bottle. 

Paired with the wine list is a selection of delicious charcuterie and cheese plates to take you from a light bite to dinner if you are so inclined.

The smoked octopus was outstanding – generous, tender and with a wonderful meaty smokiness. The cheeses on offer were similarly delicious, the cows milk cheese from Oregon coated with coffee was a particular standout. 

South Press is, quite simply, a wonderful place to enjoy wine. We cannot wait to return.
