Mon Amour XO

Situated in leafy Albert Park, Mon Amour XO is a welcoming and informal restaurant with a menu showcasing dishes strongly grounded in French gastronomy.

The first floor boasts a warm café vibe while upstairs, the dining room is at once traditional and relaxed, shunning the grungy look that is today’s Melbourne norm in favour of a more conventional bistro atmosphere. Dimly lit with scattered pockets of luminescence emitting from tabletop candles, it is a comfortable setting.

We commenced our meal with an excellent entrée of Portobello mushroom Napoleon with garlic spinach, Persian fetta and shallot jus. It was a triumph of a dish both in terms of texture, with the tender mushroom contrasting nicely with the creamy Persian fetta and beautifully wilted garlic spinach, and in terms of flavour, with the shallot jus enhancing the earthiness of the mushroom.

Similarly well executed was a dish of Oven roasted split King Prawns with extra virgin olive oil and cinnamon which were expertly cooked.

For mains the Crispy Duck Leg was a winner. The skilfully prepared duck leg was wonderfully crispy and paired classically with braised savoy cabbage and roasted golden beets to great effect.

The dish of Sautéed Codfish was our favourite dish of the night. The Sautéed Codfish was cooked with precision. The accompaniments, cauliflower florets, capers, lemon, crispy morsels of brioche and luxurious beurre noisette provided a range of harmonising flavours and textures, the end result was a thoroughly enjoyable dish

The Chef's selection cheese platter was the perfect manner to transition from our savoury courses to dessert. We loved the beautiful selection paired with crusty bread and crisps.

A lovely clafoutis served with crème anglaise concluded our evening on a sweet note. It was a simple dish of an older age but one which was a beautiful end to our meal. The clafoutis was rich, smooth and well balanced by the slight tartness of the accompanying berries.  

Mon Amour XO delivers with high quality French cuisine to warm the soul combined with solid service standards.  Our next visit cannot come soon enough.
