POCHA POCHA has just opened at Westfield Doncaster, located at their outdoor rooftop Doncaster Dining Precinct. The latest culinary venture for David Loh ( Shanghai Red, Miss Pings, Tetsujin etc), POCHA POCHA is a new colourful beer garden and eatery that is the first of its kind to have the kitchen and bar set in a shipping container.
POCHA POCHA is a ‘Melbourne meets Seoul’ foodie eatery. Abrunch cafe by day and meal tapas bar by night. The menu has been carefully created and designed to please any palate by Executive Chef, Rafael Santos; (formally of Nobu, Sake, Supernormal and Mecca Bah) and Executive Chef, Dennis Son.
We loved tasting our way through the Korean influenced evening sharing menu that is simply perfect to wash down with their excellent selection of craft beers and unique cocktails.
To start, the Crispy Eggplant was delicious - A well-conceived dish that took full advantage of the eggplant’s most notable characteristic – its supple flesh. The thick pieces of eggplant were battered and deep fried and before being adorned with numbing Sichuan pepper glaze. Just yum!
For mains we fell in love with the Kimchi Cream Barramundi - Perfectly pan fried barramundi fillet cooked in burnt butter, kimchi cream and finished with lemon, chilli and coriander.
A visit to POCHA POCHA would of course be incomplete without their Korean Fried Chicken. There are different variations of the famous fried chicken, such as Sweet Spicy, Smokey Soy Garlic and Snow Cheese. The sauces add that extra level of flavour and are influenced by the diverse Korean culture. The fried chicken itself is moist and juicy and is consistently encased in a truly addictive crunchy batter.
Complementing the menu is an extensive list of beverages where patrons can enjoy juices, smoothies, coffees by Zest, Mork Hot and Iced Chocolate, a selection of local and international craft beers, wines and spirits. There is a selection of signature cocktails and mocktails. Whatever you do, make sure you try the Soju Collins – a heady and delectable mix of Grapefruit Soju, Ketel One Vodka, Lime and Soda.
