Saros Bar & Dining
/Set on the ground floor in the burgeoning North-West of Melbourne Saros Bar & Dining boasts, big apple styled booths, an enticing European menu to tantalise the taste buds with the centre piece being the marble bar that oozes sophistication, style and class.
Located on the ground floor of the newly launched The Sebel Melbourne in Moonee Ponds, this New York styled restaurant by JMS Hospitality favours a wine and tapas concept and promises to be a welcome delight to Melbournian’s emerging from iso. The menu has been carefully created and designed to please any palate with a variety of earthy, full-bodied, fresh Mediterranean-inspired dishes. Options include vegan, vegetarian, gluten and dairy free and a full kids and sharing menu. Distinctive flavours include house smoked, cured, infused, marinated and charred delights.
JobKeeper was good news for the business with employees able to hold on to their jobs during lockdown. The time out enabled staff and Executive Chef David Fernandez to create an exciting dining out experience post pandemic.
Complementing the menu is an international wine list and a large selection of spirits including over 20 different scotches, 10 gins, 10 vodkas and an extensive range of liquors. Cocktails will be a speciality with Cosmopolitans and Martinis the drink of choice. It’s safe to say that Saros Bar & Dining won’t be your standard ‘local’.
We loved tasting our way through the dinner menu.
To start the dish of fire- grilled wagyu skewers served with fresh tomato and chilli salsa and cress salad was delicious. The wagyu was beautifully tender and bursting with flavour courtesy of the luscious honey and chipotle marinade.
To follow, the garlic prawns were similarly delicious. The prawns were plump and tasted wonderfully fresh and had been pan fried with chorizo, concasse tomato, chilli and herbs and served alongside crusty ciabatta bread.
For mains, the veal cutlet and eye fillet were a cut above. Displaying a mastery in the manner the steaks were cooked, the inch thick cuts of veal and beef were each cooked perfectly from end to end. A light searing ensured that each steak was lined with a thin crisp layer packed with caramelised flavour.
Dessert time continued to please and showcased the versatility of the kitchen. No matter what you do, make sure you try the flourless pear and almond cake - beautifully moist and served with raspberry caramel and decadent honey-lemon mascarpone. Just yum!
