Windsor High tea
/High tea is all about tradition and grandeur and where more traditional or grand to indulge in this decadent ritual than The Hotel Windsor in Melbourne, which has been serving its sumptuous Afternoon Tea since 1883. As soon as you set foot in The Hotel Windsor’s magnificently appointed dining room, you can understand why it has survived the test of time.
Afternoon Tea at The Hotel Windsor is a decadent affair. A glass of sparkling wine is the perfect beginning while looking over the expansive tea menu. We opted for The Hotel Windsor’s own unique blend as well as a pot of flowering jasmine.
Savouries are served on beautiful three-tiered stands and include a selection of ribbon sandwiches such as egg mayonnaise and dill, smoked salmon and cream cheese, cucumber, avocado, tarragon and shaved leg ham with English mustard mayonnaise, savoury pastries such as little bite sized cauliflower and cheese pies and, of course, The Hotel Windsor’s famous scones with double cream and jam. The sandwiches were meticulously put together, with just the right amount of deliciously fresh fillings. The pastries were picture perfect and the scones were beautifully burnished on top while light and fluffy on the inside - it’s clear why they are famous!
After working our way through 3 savoury tiers of bliss, it was time to explore the dessert buffet. The weekend dessert buffet is truly something to behold with something for everyone. Our pick of the bunch has got to be the beautifully crafted mandarin gateaux, with layers of mandarin mousse, vanilla cream, juniper sable and orange sponge.
The Hotel Windsor continues to set the bar for high tea in Melbourne. Go on, spoil yourself.
